When it comes to hosting an event, there are myriad things to consider, coordinate, and of course pay for. In the midst of that often chaotic process, music is often on the table as an option or necessity. The conundrum then becomes what you want out of the music experience, and should you use a DJ or have live music? There are times and places for DJs, but for this we are proponents of live music.
AN ENCOMPASSING EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS SET THE TONE
Why do we go to concerts when we could sit at home and listen to music? Because of the entire experience around it. The concert experience not only lets us hear music with the best sound quality, but we also see it, feel it, and experience it with others. When you have live music for cocktails, dinners, and ceremonies, a certain elegance and sophistication is added to the occasion. And, when it comes to dancing, nothing is more fun than a band that tears the roof off.
A GREAT CONVERSATION STARTER
Over years of performing at events, many of my fondest memories are of the conversations I’ve overheard or have had with guests who were reminiscing about their experiences with music. Maybe it was high school band, or their first concert, or of a friend or loved one that plays an instrument. It’s especially endearing when kids dance and ask questions, they are the Pied Pipers of engagement. Young and old alike appreciate live music, and it almost always greases the wheels of interaction between guests.
With live music you get a one of a kind experience. Not only does each group of musicians have their own style and flavor, but each performance is a unique soundtrack specific to the event. Think of your favorite movies, now imagine them without a soundtrack, it’s absolute heresy. With a seasoned group of musicians you get a soundtrack seamlessly weaved into each event, fading in and out, holding the background or leading the foreground as needed. This ability to play to the room and occasion provides a memorable touch for your guests. This is perfect for themed events, where musicians can coordinate with caterers and decorators.
When you have hired seasoned musicians, they can read a room or situation and flow, adjust, or reset seamlessly. With years of experience comes the knowledge of what are the best moments to adapt the music by speeding up, slowing down, changing the length of the song, or adapting the style of music which allows them to blend in perfectly.
When you hire live musicians you are getting a private concert, which is a gift to your guests, and a memory for all. Whether strings, brass, or a band, there is a visceral appeal about seeing, hearing, and feeling live music, evoking emotion and memory in a way that recorded music can’t.
